A Nigerian carved wooden scultpture of a female with an infant on her back. This was carved by the Tiv people of Nigeria and was a tribal piece that was left with Sister Mary Elizabeth Trotman, a training midwife in the region, for safekeeping during the Tiv Riots in the 1960's. This piece was never reclaimed by the Tiv people and came back to the United Kingdom with the Trotman family on their return. These figural sculptures were revered for the protection and prosperity they provided especially regarding marriage and human fertility
